Study in Indonesia

Indonesian is spoken by roughly 220 million people as either their first or second language. Combined with the knowledge of Indonesian history, culture and customs, Indonesian language skills can become the key to communicating effectively with the large Indonesian communities in both the Australian and Asian settings.

With various cooperative forums being established between Indonesia and Australia, more students are recognising the usefulness of their knowledge and skills in Indonesian. Employers like these skills.

As one of Australia’s closest neighbours, Indonesia is undergoing a tremendous change, and it will be interesting to study the change and to follow its direction.

Students do not have to have HSC Indonesian to enrol. In order to count Indonesian as a major sequence, undergraduate students must complete 42 units of credit in Indonesian language, Indonesian Studies courses and courses approved by the discipline advisers/coordinators of Indonesian.

The major sequence in Indonesian at UNSW will give you practical language skills relevant to a wide range of careers, and will prepare you for more advanced studies (4th year Honours or study in Indonesia). Students combining a major in Indonesian with professional qualifications have entered careers in medicine, law firms and consultancy, commerce and trade, the diplomatic service, engineering, and mining.

The School also offers an in-country study option for students in Indonesian. Studies in Indonesia can be credited to a major in Indonesian at UNSW.
