Useful Links in Spanish Studies

Students who wish to major in Spanish and Latin American Studies can combine either language based courses and literature, art, film and history.

Courses in Spanish and Latin American history are available to all students once they have completed their first year of study.

At the first level, students are assigned to different courses according to their level of spoken and written Spanish: beginner or some prior knowledge.  A full three or four year program is offered for students who begin at each of the levels.

Language courses are designed to give students a sound basis of spoken and written Spanish. The School favours no particular regional variety of Spanish. Through the use of video, current audio material, films and modern textbooks, the School attempts to ensure that students are familiar with the Spanish language as it is spoken in its contemporary cultural context. Spanish is used as the language of instruction in many language and literature courses taught in the School. Electives are available in Spanish linguistics. Selective use is also made of digital and Internet technology.

Regardless of a student's major, many courses in Spanish and Latin American Studies may be counted towards the BA and other degrees offered by the University.
